The Destruction of Family
The destruction of the institution of the family is evident in today’s society. Where the people are becoming more accepting of selfishness, and the vanity of our pride, carrying these attributes within the home. The socialistic ideals of breaking up the home serve as the downfall of political activism in our country today. Once we lose the value of our homes and the meaning of family we have nothing more to fight for; we have lost the sincerity of the human condition. Our country is in need of reform of the family institution because our kids are suffering from selfish actions and conceit. Our kids deserve to have a stationary home. Our families have to come first. In the article, Families, Divorce and Voter turnout in the US, Julianna Sandell and Eric Plutzer examine the important aspect of family influence by tracing the impact of divorce on voter turnout during adolescence. They talk about how “ political scientists have shown that family characteristics have important consequences for many aspects of political behavior(Weisberg,1987).” They bring up the fact that “the available research suggests that the impacts are almost always negative, with custodial parents investing less time with school work, being less supportive, and engaging in more conflict with their children (Amato,2000).” An interesting point that this article makes is that “ divorce rates have risen during the last generation, which corresponds with falling voter turnout rates among 18-24 year old.” Divorce leading to a broken home suggests that the downfall in today’s democracy swayed society has steadily dropped as the percentage of split homes increases.
