Us? Work Together?
Although we live in a time of deep partisan divisions, the majority of Americans do agree on many significant issues - like strengthening gun background checks, instituting term limits, reforming campaign finance, and curbing financial bailouts. But these majority opinions are often ignored. Not every poll is accurate and citizens can't always be experts, but when Americans do agree, our ideas should be considered in policy debates.
“Us? Work Together?” is a short and amusing video (with embedded links) that suggests a solution. In the video, a Liberal and a Conservative realize to their amazement that they agree on many things. Together, they cook up a plan to strengthen American democracy: using online tools to find and express our agreements, and publicizing them on mass madia platforms. The good news is the tools exist: we’ve built them. The bad news is, it's not easy for citizens to be heard when policy dialogues are dominated by pundits and politicians who thrive on conflict. We need the support of Looking@Democracy to leverage mass media attention to our agreements and enhance the people's voice for the digital age.
This video moves fast! But we want to make sure we educate viewers and back up our statements, so we've used a YouTube feature that inserts links with more information and examples. Watch it once, then play it again and follow the links!

I like the juxtaposition of the @#$% Yankee (Marin) Liberal with the "Yes, I can have it all!" corporada. Disagreements among friends create the most insight, according to R. W. Emerson but maybe we need to find some agreement before we can be friends. Might want to check out what Mancur Olson has written about how Capitalist democracies inevitably shift to provide stable mechanisms for small sets of the polity to extract a little bit from everyone else and, in the process, stifle democracy.

Jeff makes a good point about how certain forms of democracies keep shifting to favor a particular elite. Maybe Digital Citizen can provide a way around that, so that the 'silent majority' (2013 version) can be heard

If I were a judge, you'd be on my short list. You fit the criteria as well as I do. Our approaches complement each other in wonderful ways! Look at my submission. It helps people be able to vote from an informed perspective! "Elections Clarified" https://vimeo.com/64616892 or
