DIVE IN: This Is What Democracy Looks Like
At a time when we are more connected than ever before, we have become disconnected. As a result, democracy is drowning. This multimedia project, which incorporates animation, mobile photography and video documentation, was produced by students in Dr. Caroline Kaltefleiter's COM 350 New Communication Media class at the State University of New York at Cortland.
Democracy doesn't happen on a screen. It happens when you make the choice to stand up and get involved. As students we have done just that. Our project calls for intergenerational outreach, both young and old, from all places of life coming together to accomplish good and breaking the divide of social equality. This is the essence of democracy; getting involved, getting people offline and into the community. This is our call to action.

This video embodies what it means to get people locally involved in their communities for reasons outside the political realm. Democracy cannot happen with just one person, so the part that talks about being so distracted with the "me" and forgetting about the "we" really gave me chills. The notion of going out, getting local and sharing what you can really drives the idea of democracy close to home. The photography and footage seem authentic and it adds a sense of emotional investment to the video. Nice job to everyone involved!

Victoria: I couldn't agree more the people who were involved in the making did a great job and the fact that they focused on a local level makes it seem possible to build a stronger democracy. We just have to work on a micro-level then work up to a macro-level start in the communities then work the way up. Have people take pride in where they are from and that in itself will help build a stronger bond and help strengthen democracy.

This video really hits all of the key components to what is missing in today's society. Put down the phones people! Amazing that this was only made by college students! Great work.

Cannot believe that a classroom of students produced a video this amazing. Really touched my heart and made me want to get out there and do something as a person in the younger generation because we can make a difference.

The message in this video is great because the solution it suggests is so simple, powerful, and everyone can be a part of it.

I liked your video. Great goal - but my entry shows one strategy to accomplish the goal. Look at my submission. "Elections Clarified" https://vimeo.com/64616892 or
