Looking at Democracy in America today, these are exciting times. Recent advances in technology, combined with the explosion of social media networks, create opportunities for people to connect, share their knowledge and opinions, and fund and validate projects at a grassroots level.

In one of his earliest presidential directives, President Obama called for more transparency, participation, and collaboration between the government and its people. Now, innovations like crowdsourcing, crowdvoting, and crowdfunding present an opportunity to improve the democratic process in the spirit of this directive.
