Reinventing the Patriot
“Reinventing the Patriot” was created to recognize superhero-levels of activism by youth nationwide. The vision was inspired by founder Paige Edmiston’s 2008 essay, “What True Patriotism Means to Me: A New Breed of Superhero for the 21st Century,” which shows how community and civic engagement by youth can lead to results as powerful as any of those delivered by our comic book heroes. The essay is being adapted into a 22-minute film (currently in post-production) that documents the amazing story of the students of Federal Way High School who, in 2012, rallied their community to turnaround a 15 point electoral levy campaign loss into a 20 point victory in eight months, assuring a $120 million state of the art school.

What a compelling and moving video! Hooray to Paige and the Edmiston's and all the others who participated in this documentary! I am so happy we have our youth rising up to be our heroes!! I remain proud to be an Eagle mom!!

I think you've captured the true spirit of what a few young individuals can do to become Heroes in their own right. Not only can they change the hearts and minds of voters and decision-makers, but they also enrich their own lives and futures when they see what a difference they can make!

What a great tribute to the students of Federal Way HS. I heard each and every student that presented to the school board at each meeting throughout the capital campaign and was blown away by each and every one of them!
